DR. KUSHAGRA SINGH NEGI, DR. BHUPENDRA KUMAR MAHENDRA

Abstract

The concept of the "Global South" encompasses a diverse group of countries primarily located in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, sharing common challenges such as economic disparity, historical colonial exploitation, and developmental hurdles. India, a pivotal member of the Global South, has emerged as a prominent economy and a hub of financial activities, with its stock market serving as a critical indicator of economic health and global integration. The Indian stock market serves as a microcosm of the country's economic growth and integration within the Global South. This paper examines the market's historical trajectory from colonial foundations to its current status as a globally significant financial hub. The study investigates the influence of global economic trends and regional dynamics on market performance while identifying key challenges, such as regulatory gaps, dependence on foreign capital, and limited retail participation. It also highlights emerging opportunities through digital innovation, sustainability initiatives, and enhanced regional collaboration. By proposing targeted policy measures to address systemic vulnerabilities and foster inclusivity, the research underscores the pivotal role of the Indian stock market in strengthening economic resilience and advancing India's leadership within the Global South.
