Abstract

The biotechnology sector in India has undergone a remarkable transformation, emerging as a global hub for innovation and entrepreneurship. Driven by a confluence of factors such as government support, academic-industry collaborations, and global market demand, Indian biotechnology startups are addressing critical challenges in healthcare, agriculture, industrial biotechnology, and environmental sustainability. These startups have made significant global contributions, from affordable vaccines and biosimilars to sustainable agricultural practices and green technologies. However, challenges such as funding constraints, regulatory bottlenecks, and infrastructure gaps persist. By fostering collaboration among stakeholders and leveraging advancements in digital integration and sustainability, Indian biotech startups are poised to lead the Global South in addressing global challenges and promoting inclusive growth. This article explores their growth trajectory, areas of innovation, challenges, and future prospects, highlighting their pivotal role in shaping a sustainable and equitable future.
