ASSESSING THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC IMPACT OF MSMES ON RURAL WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS IN RAJASTHAN
DR PRAGATI BHATI, PROF. SHISHUPAL SINGH BHADU
Abstract
This empirical study assesses the socio-economic impact of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) on rural women entrepreneurs in Rajasthan, India. MSMEs play a pivotal role in fostering economic growth, especially in rural regions where employment opportunities are limited, and women face significant socio-economic challenges. This study explores how MSMEs contribute to the empowerment of rural women by improving their income levels, social mobility, and decision-making power. A total of 250 rural women entrepreneurs involved in sectors like handicrafts, textiles, and food processing were surveyed using a structured questionnaire. The data was analyzed using statistical techniques, including the paired t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), to test hypotheses regarding income changes, social status, and sectoral differences. The results show a significant increase in income post-engagement with MSMEs, along with improved social standing and greater participation in household decision-making processes. However, sectoral disparities were observed, with women in food processing demonstrating the highest gains. The study concludes that MSMEs are a key driver of socio-economic empowerment for rural women in Rajasthan, though there remain challenges such as limited access to credit and training. Recommendations are provided to enhance the positive impact of MSMEs on women's empowerment and socio-economic upliftment.
