A STUDY ON THE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN TRIPURA

KALPANA NOATIA, DR. SAHIDUL ALAM, DR. JADAB DUTTA

Abstract

This study investigates the academic achievement of secondary school students in the West and Gomati districts of Tripura. The primary objectives were to analyze the overall academic performance of students from these districts and to compare the performance based on gender, locality (rural vs. urban), and type of school (government vs. private). A descriptive survey method was employed, and the sample consisted of 400 Class X students, selected through stratified and simple random sampling techniques from 16 schools (8 government and 8 private) across both districts. Academic achievement was measured using final examination marks from the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) for the 2025 session. Data analysis was conducted using mean, standard deviation, and t-test via Microsoft Excel. The findings revealed that students from West District outperformed those from Gomati District, with more consistent results. Although female students scored slightly higher than males, the difference was not statistically significant. However, significant differences were found in the performance of urban versus rural students and private versus government school students, with urban and private school students achieving higher scores. The study concludes that locality and school type have a notable impact on students' academic achievement in Tripura.
