JYOTI WADHWA

Abstract

Embarking on an exploration of the pivotal significance of home science education in fostering health and hygiene among students and communities, this article delves into the fundamental aspects of well-being. Health and hygiene stand as essential pillars of overall wellness, yet numerous individuals lack the necessary knowledge and skills to uphold them. Home science, being an interdisciplinary domain, amalgamates insights from nutrition, health education, and practical expertise to empower individuals, especially women and children, in making informed choices regarding their health.

The narrative traverses through diverse health and hygiene educational initiatives embedded within home science curricula. It accentuates successful approaches that bolster awareness and hands-on application of hygienic protocols. The spotlight is cast on immersive learning encounters like culinary showcases, sanitation workshops, and community outreach endeavours that nurture a profound comprehension of hygiene fundamentals.

Moreover, a scrutiny is placed upon the influence of these educational interventions on behavioural transformations within families and communities—ultimately steering towards enhanced public health outcomes. Through a thorough examination of case studies and existing literature, the discourse underscores the imperative need to infuse health and hygiene education into home science programs as a conduit for endowing individuals with indispensable life skills while advocating for healthier lifestyles. The revelations call for policy refinements to fortify home science education frameworks and foster wider engagement in health-centric initiatives.
