Abstract

The place of *Shri Ramcharitmanas* in India's cultural and spiritual life remains as vibrant and relevant today as it was in the sixteenth century. It is not merely a poetic work but a philosophy of life, a social code, and a spiritual guide that—transcending the layers of time—continues to deeply stir the human consciousness. *Ramcharitmanas* is a seminal text of Indian culture, religion, philosophy, and folk life, having shaped the moral, spiritual, and cultural fabric of society for centuries. Its various ideals—such as truth, propriety (*maryada*), devotion to duty, compassion, tolerance, public welfare, good governance, and human empathy—continue to serve as a source of inspiration for society.
The present era is defined by science, technology, globalization, consumerism, and rapid social change. In such times, humanity faces numerous ethical, psychological, and social challenges. Under these circumstances, *Ramcharitmanas* appears significant not only as a religious text but also as a guide to life's values. At the same time, questions have been raised regarding certain episodes within the text from the perspectives of modern discourse on women, Dalit issues, human rights, democratic values, and equality. Therefore, evaluating its relevance requires a critical and objective approach rather than one based solely on reverence. This research paper presents a balanced analysis of both the positive aspects and the limitations of *Ramcharitmanas*. The study reveals that although social norms have evolved over time, many of the human and ethical values ??embedded in *Ramcharitmanas* still possess the capacity to provide direction to society. Consequently, there is a need to redefine and reinterpret its relevance within a modern context.
